When installing wiring in escalators, moving walkways, platform lifts, stairway chairlift runways, machinery spaces, control spaces, or machine/control rooms (not including the traveling cables connecting the car, or counterweight and hoistway wiring), which of the following methods is not permitted?

    1. Rigid metal conduit, intermediate metal conduit, rigid nonmetallic conduit.
    2. Electrical nonmetallic tubing (ENT).
    3. Wireways.
    4. MC, MI or AC [unless otherwise permitted in 620.21(A) through (C)].

    Answer: B

This answer is pretty straightforward. Electrical nonmetallic tubing (ENT) is not one of the approved wiring methods listed in 620.21 (Wiring Methods for Elevators, Dumbwaiters, Escalators, Moving Walks, Platform Lifts, and Stairway Chairlifts). ENT is a pliable raceway that can be bent by hand with a reasonable force, but without other assistance. In part, that is how this product type differs from nonmetallic (PVC) conduits of Art. 352.
