Is your safety mentality (and/or that of your company) based on what you can get by with or on how to protect yourself from the dangers that may arise? If you’re trying to avoid administrative penalties rather than protect yourself, you are gambling with your safety and that of your coworkers.
Are you a safety gambler? Let’s find out.
You may be a safety gambler if you:
- See NEC minimums as maximum design criteria.
- Wear hearing protection only if there’s a sign posted.
- Put your safety glasses on when you see the boss coming, instead of having them on at all times (other than in break rooms and offices).
- Walk into a work area without first pausing to look, listen, and smell. Who’s going to notice and say anything? You’ve got work to do.
- Step on your test leads, but put them back in the case instead of replace them.
- Step on your buddy’s test leads, but don’t say anything because you don’t want him upset with you.
