Making Repairs Faster, Part 7

Jan. 7, 2014
The head of maintenance announces that the team will divide into small groups that practice and drill on specific repairs of critical equipment, producing a few experts.

Try to imagine this: The head coach of the Dallas Cowboys (or some other team, if you prefer) announces that the team will no longer practice any of the plays in their playbook. This is, he says, a necessary cost reduction. How long do you think that coach would keep his job? We all know that the failure to practice would incur huge losses. The Cowboys would get trampled on the field because they wouldn’t know what they were doing out there.

Now try to imagine this: The head of maintenance announces that the team will divide into small groups that practice and drill on specific repairs of critical equipment, producing a few experts for each piece of equipment. He says this will turn them into the Super Bowl Champions of repairs for that equipment.

Like professional football players, practicing your repair “plays” can vastly improve your speed and accuracy in the field.
