Number of points NEMA’s Electroindustry Business Confidence Index (EBCI) dropped in July, putting the total at 63.5 — the lowest level since January 2010. Similarly, the EBCI for future North American conditions posted its second sizable decline in as many months in July, dropping 12.7 points to 57.7 on the heels of June’s 6.7 point fall.

Level of the second quarter National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Remodeling Market Index (RMI). The RMI (combining current and future market indicators) sunk to 40.7 from 43.8 in the first quarter. Current market conditions slid back to 42.6 from 44.5 in the previous quarter. Future indicators of remodeling business declined to 38.9 from 43.1 in the last quarter.

Percentage rise in office vacancies in the second quarter of 2010. According to an article in the July 8 edition of The Wall Street Journal, “New office construction starts are at historically low levels — less than 5 million square feet in each of the last three quarters.”

Percentage drop in the number of hotels under construction in the second quarter of 2010 compared to the peak two years earlier. Lodging Econometrics expects total construction pipeline counts to continue to fall before leveling off sometime in 2011.
