Connecticut Clean Energy Fund Announces Solar Power Rebate Program

To fall in line with the growing trend of energy-savings, the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund has launched a $1.8 million, three-year rebate campaign

To fall in line with the growing trend of energy-savings, the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund has launched a $1.8 million, three-year rebate campaign to encourage homeowners to install a solar photovoltaic system on their rooftop, which generates electricity without pollution and helps cut the cost of electricity. Solar energy installation is expensive, with systems in Connecticut ranging from $20,000 to $45,000, but Charles Moret, the fund's managing director for solar energy programs, says rebates as high as $25,000 can make it much more affordable. The solar panels can be ground-mounted or placed on a south-facing rooftop, but in order to be eligible for the rebate program, they must have direct sun without shade from trees or buildings between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The state has approved eight solar system installers and those companies will be the ones to apply for the homeowner's rebate. Bob Fabian, an account manager for one of the approved installers, says certain people will make the installations, regardless of the cost. “It's for people who recognize the need to move away from fossil fuels,” Fabian says.
