I recently read a blog post on this topic by Taylor Embury of Navigant Research (http://www.navigantresearch.com/blog/lighting-as-a-service-hints-at-major-industry-shifts). The post stated that Philips had signed a 10-year performance lighting contract with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority to upgrade more than 13,000 light fixtures at no upfront cost to the Authority. Philips will also monitor and maintain the system during the life of the contract, allowing WMATA to redirect approximately $600,000 annually in labor and material resources. Embury states, “The implications of this business model are significant.” Do you agree with this assessment? If you work for an electrical design firm or an electrical contractor do you see this as a challenge to your business?
