What is the time interval for doing the polarization index test on motors? Should it be every 1 year or 2 years?

The best you can do is to reference the Maintenance Frequency Matrix in Appendix B of the NETA Maintenance Testing Standard or the NFPA 70B for the specific type of equipment. For instance, for an AC induction motor NETA will determine value based on the motor condition and the reliability requirement. For a motor that has a high reliability requirement and is in average condition it recommends a 1 yr interval. Standard is 24 months but the reliability/condition modifier is 0.5, which results in a 12 mo or 1 yr interval.
