When I went to replace the two 3-way switches I noticed that there were not two travelers but only one. I located the hot wire, and a brown wire connected to the traveler terminal. This brown wire is connected to one traveler post, then the same wire without being cut runs to the second traveler post. I have never seen this and always thought you had to have both travelers for the 3-way lighting to work. Why would this be like this and how does it still work?

http://ecmweb.com/forums/electrical-101/questions-help-rookies/3-way-switch-traveler#comments Questions & Help for Rookies Thu, 17 Nov 2016 02:26:44 +0000 142521 at http://ecmweb.com New Ground Fault System with an Untracable Fault http://ecmweb.com/forums/electrical-101/questions-help-rookies/new-ground-fault-system-untracable-fault

Hello All,

http://ecmweb.com/forums/electrical-101/questions-help-rookies/new-ground-fault-system-untracable-fault#comments Questions & Help for Rookies Fri, 04 Nov 2016 18:49:24 +0000 142151 at http://ecmweb.com Safe or Not Safe? Mailbox Lamp http://ecmweb.com/forums/electrical-101/questions-help-rookies/safe-or-not-safe-mailbox-lamp

I'm replacing a mailbox lamp for a friend. I'm getting 120V across the black and bare. I get no voltage across black and white. I'm assuming that the neutral is broken, probably underground. An electrician estimated $500 to dig a trench and replace the cable from house to mailbox. He couldn't advise me (for liability reasons) when I asked if black to bare would pose any safety hazards. So I'm researching for the answer. I was thinking that I would wire it that way, making sure that the breaker controlling it was GFI protected.

http://ecmweb.com/forums/electrical-101/questions-help-rookies/safe-or-not-safe-mailbox-lamp#comments Questions & Help for Rookies Thu, 03 Nov 2016 18:55:51 +0000 142091 at http://ecmweb.com Light Switch Voltage is Only 75VAC http://ecmweb.com/forums/electrical-101/questions-help-rookies/light-switch-voltage-only-75vac

The overhead light in the master bath closet of a 25 year old home stopped working.
