NEMA Joins Coalition for Current Safety Codes in Support of Advancing Public Safety

NEMA joins the Coalition for Current Safety Codes (CCSC), a new coalition created by the International Code Council (ICC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), which publishes the National Electrical Code (NEC)

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) joined the Coalition for Current Safety Codes (CCSC), a new coalition created by the International Code Council (ICC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), which publishes theNational Electrical Code (NEC). The coalition will advance public safety by advocating the timely adoption of current building, sustainability, electrical, and life safety codes. 

NEMA is already heavily involved in the code development process for ICC and NFPA codes, and its field representative program has been a strong advocate of the timely adoption and consistent enforcement of current edition safety codes.

"The timely adoption of the National Electrical Code and other safety codes is fundamental to protecting the lay public who, without thinking, routinely uses electrical products of all kinds," said NEMA President and CEO Evan R. Gaddis. "NEMA members automatically design safety into their products, but proper installation of their products is also a critical element of personnel and property protection. Delayed adoption of the NEC and other codes opens the door for installation errors, particularly with new products.  Delays also prevent the public from enjoying the safety benefits of new technologies such as arc fault circuit interrupters and tamper proof receptacles. NEMA urges local authorities to adopt the NEC and other safety codes in accordance with the schedule recommended by fire and electrical safety professionals."
