HAI by Leviton Controls System in Ontario Nursery

Richmond Nursery, Richmond, Ontario, is an eight-acre site that includes more than 15 gutter-connected greenhouses.

At any one time, the Richmond Nursery, Richmond, Ontario, will have more than a million plants of up to 1,000 different varieties under cultivation. This presented a particular challenge in reducing energy usage and costs for the facility.

Prior to the HAI by Leviton system, lighting and ventilation devices were controlled by individual timers. With such large-scale, complex operations, the nursery needed a way to better control its site and reduce substantial electricity and heating expenses.

Gas-fired CO2 burner, which increases the level of carbon dioxide in the greenhouse air to encourage the plants to grow faster, had to be integrated into the system by Natural Automation, Greely, Ontario. Legal requirements to keep CO2 levels below certain thresholds to protect workers at the nursery are easier met with sensors that monitor the CO2 level. If the system detects that the level has exceeded the threshold, then the HAI by Leviton system shuts down the CO2 units.

The OmniPro II controller is the central brain of the nursery’s HAI by Leviton automation system. It is designed for large residences and commercial installations. It comes with a commercial-grade, attack-proof enclosure, lock set with two keys, UPB PIM, RJ31X cord and jack, and manuals.

20A relay switch #72A00-1 provides hardwired load control module that connects directly to voltage outputs on HAI by Leviton controllers and expanders and includes a manual override switch. Can control 120, 240 or 277 VAC loads. Ideal for lighting control in commercial environments.

Omnistat 2 programmable communicating thermostat RC-1000WH controls single stage, including gas, oil, steam, hydronic, forced air, radiant, electric; single-speed heat pumps with auxiliary heat; dual fuel heat pumps; plus uses Zigbee wireless communication.

For additional sensor inputs and outputs, the expansion enclosure reduces wiring use in larger installations. The expansion box has 16 input/16 output expansion board with enclosure, lock set with two keys, accessory kit, and instructions.
