Technical Note on Inductance of Fuses in High-Frequency Power Electronic Circuits Released

In response to the increasing use of semiconductor fuses to protect IGBT inverters against the effects of short-circuit faults, Gould Shawmut, Newburyport, Mass., recently released its Technical Note: Inductance of Fuses in High-Frequency Power Electronic Circuits.

As these circuits operate at high frequencies, typically 2 kHz to 20 kHz, the switching di/dt is high. Therefore, the circuit inductance must be kept low to minimize transient over voltages. This technical note analyzes how to minimize inductance with the addition of fuses into a circuit.
