TIA Issues Call for Interest on New Project for Telecommunications Physical Network Security Standard

July 21, 2014
This document covers the security of telecom cables, pathways, spaces, & other elements of the physical infrastructure.

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.1 Engineering Committee on Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling has issued a call for interest for document ANSI/TIA-5017 initially titled "Telecommunications Physical Network Security Standard." This document covers the security of telecom cables, pathways, spaces, & other elements of the physical infrastructure. It includes design guidelines, installation practices, administration, & management. It addresses guidelines for new construction as well as renovation of existing buildings. The document also provides installation guidelines, for implementing security cabling systems for premise security systems with an integrated security approach. Justification: This Standard will enable the planning and installation of physical network security systems that protect critical telecommunications infrastructure elements.

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Building owners or agents, Telecommunications designers and installers for customer owned premises, facilities managers, security managers.

TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.

For more information about TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Germaine Palangdao at [email protected].

A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. On the public engineering committee pages, users will find recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee. TIA is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
