Fred Tamayo, P.E., has joined STV as a VP and lead electrical engineer in the Buildings & Facilities Division's Eastern Region

Fred Tamayo, P.E., has joined STV as a VP and lead electrical engineer in the Buildings & Facilities Division's Eastern Region. In this role, he will be responsible for overseeing the electrical engineering work in the New York and Boston offices. He will report to James Bannon, P.E., senior VP.

Tamayo brings 25 years of experience to STV in electrical systems design. His experience includes design of electrical systems for a multitude of assignments, including rail transportation, building infrastructure, campus distribution, master plans, electrical substation design, and the adaptive reuse of existing facilities. He has also been involved in low voltage, medium voltage and central utility plant design projects. His project experience includes transit, health care, biomedical research, academic, and civic projects nationwide.

Before joining STV, Tamayo was a principal at a consulting engineering firm headquartered in Boston that specializes in mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection. His work included the Connecticut's Stamford Hospital new central utility plant; major electrical systems upgrades at the Rockefeller University Collaborative Research Center, and the conversion of a parking garage in Manhattan into a 65,000-sq-ft wet research laboratory for the Weill Cornell Medical College.

Previously, he was a senior associate and supervising engineer for a consulting firm responsible for the design of electrical systems for commercial and industrial facilities. Projects included the Royal Bank of Canada data center upgrades in New York, and the Nokia Corporate Center in White Plains, N.Y. Early in his career, he served with the MTA Metro North Railroad and New York City Transit Authority.

Tamayo received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is a registered Professional Engineer in seven states
