Denton, Texas-based-United Copper Industries has recently begun producing the country's first supply of lead-free insulated wiring intended for commercial use in schools, public buildings, churches, and in residential housing. The products meet the European Union’s Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, prohibiting lead and several other substances from being used in the manufacturing of products shipped into or sold in Europe

RoHS rules are slated to become law in China in March 2007.
