The Task Group on DC Power Systems, addressing emerging issues in DC power systems, will meet at the Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference (I&CPS) in Louisville, Ky., from 19–25. Rapid growth in photovoltaic (PV) power generation and other distributed power generation and power system conversion technologies are presenting new opportunities for growth in DC power generation, distribution, and utilization in industrial and commercial applications. This task group, established at the 2011 I&CPS Technical Conference, has surveyed potential technical activities in the following areas:

  • grounding and bonding
  • emergency power systems
  • systems analysis
  • maintenance operation and safety
  • utility interface
  • smart grid
  • codes and standards
  • equipment design
  • reliability
  • economics
The Task Group will be reviewing recommendations for IEEE Industry Application Society (IAS) technical activities to provide technical contributions and leadership in these areas at its meeting at the 2012 I&CPS Technical Conference. Interested parties are invited to attend and participate in the ongoing planning and implementation of recommendations. The proposed technical activities will span conference activities, technical papers, standards development, and educational offerings. For more information, contact Task Group Chair Erling Hesla at [email protected].
