NERC adopts new reliability standards

New standards will take effect on April 1, 2005

The Board of Trustees of the North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) recently adopted a comprehensive set of reliability standards for the bulk electric system. The new standards will incorporate the existing NERC operating policies, planning standards, and compliance requirements into an integrated and comprehensive set of measurable reliability standards.

The new standards will apply to all entities that play a role in maintaining the reliability of the bulk electric system in the United States and Canada, and will take effect on April 1, 2005.
