Major fuel cell power plant planned for Connecticut

Planning has begun on what could become the world’s largest fuel cell power generation plant in Bridgeport, Conn., according to The Hartford Courant. A recent article says the plant would sit on two acres of land and consist of five 2MW fuel cells that, combined, would generate 10MW of power, providing enough energy for nearly 10,000 homes.

According to the Courant, project developer James Murkett, principal at Farmington, Conn.-based PurePower, says the fuel cell project hopes to participate in a state program aimed at developing 100MW of power from clean energy sources in Connecticut by 2008. Murkett told the paper he hopes the Bridgeport fuel cell plant can be completed by next year.
