• EnerSys DataSafe Batteries Chosen to Power One of the World's Greenest Data Centers

As a test bed for data center optimization, this facility was developed by Syracuse University, New York State, and IBM as a model in on-site power generation

Reading, Pa.-based EnerSys is the only battery manufacturer to help power one of the world's greenest data centers developed jointly by Syracuse University (SU), Syracuse, N.Y., IBM, Armonk, N.Y., and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Albany, N.Y. SU developed an innovative model for on-site power generation that is a self-contained source for electricity, heating, and cooling. This green data center is the first application to use an integrated functionality of microturbine tri-generation with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) batteries for a mission critical enterprise data center.

"This green data center is one-of-a-kind. Few are producing their own energy and their own cooling, " says Steve Vechy, director of marketing for UPS and utilities, EnerSys. "We see hybrids that combine energy storage with power generation becoming a much more integral part of our globe's future with clean energy."
