Cupertino Electric announced that it is installing a new 230kV transmission line to interconnect a new substation serving a 200MW solar power plant in Imperial Valley, Calif.

Cupertino Electric, Inc. (CEI) recently announced at a groundbreaking ceremony that it is installing a new 230kV transmission line to interconnect a new substation serving a 200MW solar power plant in Imperial Valley, Calif. The utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Southern California is expected to produce energy for more than 240,000 households by 2013.

“We are honored to be part of this project that will have tremendous positive impact at both the local and state level,” said Scott Mitchell, energy infrastructure division manager for Cupertino Electric, Inc. “While it’s great to be recognized for our overhead expertise and ability to help build-out the renewable energy infrastructure in California, we are most excited about our ability to employ so many people locally who can help us make a lasting and positive effect on the environment.”

When complete in late 2013, the overhead 230kV transmission line installed by Cupertino Electric will span five miles and interconnect a new 230kV substation on the 2,000-acre solar project site in California’s Imperial Valley. Cupertino Electric will be providing union electrical subcontracting services on the 200MW solar PV project.
