  • Boston Retail, Medford, Mass., recently launched its FastLane Alliance Program, allowing it to refer experienced electrical contractors to its customers. By offering its customers knowledgeable installers, the plug-and-play, pre-designed value of FastLane is realized with fewer hours per job required compared to pure pipe-and-wire. To be considered for a free listing in the Referral Directory, contractors simply need to complete the form included in the Alliance Program Guide, which can be obtained from the Boston Retail Web site.

  • The Rae Co., Los Angeles, recently announced the addition of Simkar Lighting to their ever expanding list of product lines. According to the company, the addition of Simkar establishes The Rae Co. as a leading manufacturer's rep in the Los Angeles area.

  • Environmental Systems Design (ESD), Chicago, has completed a greenfield data center in Northwestern Illinois. Designed as a “lights-out” facility with minimal support staff, the data center’s infrastructure offers very high levels of reliability and availability. Utility feeders, as well as UPS power distribution pathways, use redundant overhead bus-ways and under floor receptacles to the critical loads. The generator plant is designed for a 2N capacity at move-in and N+1capacity after the data center is fully loaded. The facility’s central HVAC plant is equipped with dual piping paths leading to the CRAC units and offers the option for N+25 percent redundancy. All piping for the CRAC units is located outside at the perimeter of the building. The structure is equipped with an Internet-based automation system, and all walls, as well as the roof, are designed to withstand an F1 tornado.

  • Operation Technology , the Irvine, Calif.-based developers of the ETAP enterprise software for electrical power systems, and Intergraph, Madison, Ala.-based developers of SmartPlant Electrical, have announced a strategic alliance allowing both companies to offer a total power engineering product for engineering, procurement, and construction companies, as well as owner/operators in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and shipbuilding industries. The strategic alliance allows customers to use ETAP and SmartPlant Electrical as an integrated platform for design, analysis, and automation of electrical power systems.

  • The Home Depot, Atlanta, and Klein Tools, Lincolnshire, Ill., recently announced that the retailer is now the exclusive home improvement retailer of the tool manufacturer’s hand-held electrical tools. Under the exclusive agreement, The Home Depot will offer Klein’s complete line of electrical tools and will be the sole home improvement retailer of all existing and future product lines.
