Finding contracts for upscale, private residential work can be a competitive business. The Franklin Report's The Insider's Guide to Home Services, a survey of home renovation and maintenance service providers in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Westchester and Fairfield counties in New York, is now available as an online database.

The guide's ratings are based on client referrals, information from the service providers and customer surveys. We asked Liz Bulos, category manager, for advice on the best way for an electrical contractor to get a listing in the print version and online.

Apply at — To appear in the print version, click on your geographic area to enter the site, follow the link for “Information for Service Providers,” and sign up. Next, contact the category manager in your area of expertise.

Subscribe to an online Franklin Report portfolio — Firms that subscribe to an online portfolio will be placed in the front of their section in the next book and will be included in the online database.

Subscribe to the WebListing service — Starting Nov. 22, the service will begin charging an administrative fee for online listings.

Purchasing a portfolio or WebListing doesn't guarantee inclusion in the printed edition. Firms with the highest client recommendations will have priority.
