Voluntary Certification for Medium-Voltage Cable Splicers

The National Cable Splicing Certification Board (NCSCB) recently introduced a national program to certify medium-voltage cable splicers. The program, an offshoot of a regional certification, the Mid-Atlantic Cable Splicing Certification Board, consists of a written exam followed by performance, or practical, exams. I've been looking around for a certification class to train my son in splicing and terminating cables above 600v. Typically 15 and 35kv. I was certified by several manufacturers while working in the mining industry in Colorado. This article talks about testing were is the training. It isn't like this is a new area, did someone wake up 100 years later and decide we need a program.
