Alcoa Acquires T&B Fiber Optic Products
Alcoa, Inc. recently acquired all of the assets relating to Thomas & Betts Corp.'s fiber optic product lines. The sale includes splitters, couplers, cable assemblies, and fiber management systems for original equipment manufacturers and optical systems suppliers marketed under the Astera brand name. Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed, the Aster business will become part of Alcoa Fujikura Ltd. (AFL) - one of 25 Alcoa business units.
Piper Electric Creates PCS
The stockholders of Piper Electric Co., Inc. of Arvada, Colo., recently announced the creation of a new and affiliated company - Piper Communication Services, Inc. (PCS). PCS specializes in the design and installation of voice and data cabling for premise, campus, and industrial markets. The PCS Web site is www. pipercommunications.com.
BICSI Installation Training Endorsed
The industry's international telecom association, BICSI, has received warranty certification approval from premises cabling components industry leaders. Endorsing the BICSI registration program for manufacturer warranties are ADC, Indianapolis; Homaco, Inc., Chicago; Krone, Inc., Denver; Ortronics, Inc., New London, Conn.; and Elgadphon Communications, Tel-Aviv, Israel.
