UE Service Partners, a directory of service providers, is now on the Internet. An outsource resource, the directory lists companies that offer inspection and/or training services for leak detection, mechanical inspection, and electrical inspection using one or more of the advanced technologies of ultrasound, infrared, oil analysis, and vibration. This international directory enables visitors to locate a service provider by pointing to a location and clicking on a map. Each listing includes the specific services offered as well as contact information.

VerticalBuyer Launches New Web Sites
VerticalBuyer Inc., Billerica, Mass, a company developer and publisher of industry-specific Web sites, recently launched two new Web sites: VoiceDataNews.com and ElectricalTimes.com. These are both online auction services and global news portals that address the business-to-business needs of the voice/data and commercial electrical industries. These sites were also introduced at NECA's annual show in Seattle Sept. 24-26. Both Web sites will feature product searches and reverse auctions, as well as a bulletin board on which companies can post press releases.

A.O. Smith Awarded First Compliance Certification Number
A.O. Smith, Tipp City, Ohio, a manufacturer of electric motors for residential, commercial, and industrial applications, recently announced its certification by the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) as conforming to the Energy Policy Act of 1992. The DOE issued the Compliance Certification number "001A" to A.O. Smith. The intent of the Energy Policy Act is to reduce energy consumption in the United States by requiring the production and use of energy-efficient products. The law applies to manufacturers selling general-purpose motors to United States markets.

Ametek Acquires Ris
Ametek, Wilmington, Mass., announced its purchase of Rochester Instrument Systems (RiS), Rochester, N.Y., a supplier of measurement instrumentation for the electric power generation and distribution market. The acquisition of RiS complements Ametek's product offering in the market for power measurement instrumentation, says the company. RiS will be managed as part of an expanded and newly named Aerospace and Power Instruments division within the Power Instruments business unit.

Vantage Group Selects Trade Service as e-Content Provider
Trade Service Corp., San Diego, announced it will supply Vantage Group, Chicago, with eDataFlex, its 1.5 million item product database of newly attributed content. It will facilitate e-procurement for Vantage Group customers.

"One of Vantage Group's toughest challenges has been to provide our customers with a fast and efficient way to locate the items they need from the vast array of products in the online catalog," says Sean Leahy, President of Vantage Group. "We have developed an extremely effective drill-down searching tool from the robust `noun, modifier, characteristic' data provided to us by Trade Service in their new eDataFlex content updating service."

Sweepstakes Winners from bestroute.com
During the Seattle NECA Show 2000, Michael Gambino, founder and president of bestroute.com, announced the winners of its "Get Behind the Wheel of bestroute.com" sweepstakes for the electrical trades. Don McNair, NECA member and senior vice president for Poulk & Steinle Inc. in Riverside, Calif., and his wife, Vangie, received the grand prize, which included a 1966 Corvette purchased from ProTeam Classic Corvette Sales. Two other winners received a four-day trip to Orlando and a one-day admission to former Nascar driver Richard Petty's driving school, and one of four Florida theme parks, including the Magic Kingdom and Wide World of Sports.

Lighting Show Returns to Chicago
Following its first Midwest event in 1999, the Chicago Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), and the Electric Association of Chicago, recently announced the second "Prairie Lights" Regional Conference and Lighting Show. Taking place February 22 and 23, 2001 at the Chicago Hyatt Regency, "Prairie Lights" brings lighting innovation to the lighting professional. Attendees will have the opportunity to see the newest products from a distinct group of architectural, specification-grade lighting manufacturers and participate in five seminars and one panel discussion.

Appleton Launches New Web Site
Meeting the growing needs for electrical construction information on the Web, EGS Appleton Electric, Skokie, Ill., recently launched its new Web site at www.appleton.com. This site was developed to help provide answers on the Internet to the electrical construction industry's greatest challenges, including the need for safe, explosionproof products for hazardous locations.

"We redesigned and expanded the content of our Web site to give users a more enhanced, comprehensive view of our product offering," says Joe Nitiss, vice president, marketing for Electrical Construction Materials. "We also believe this site will be an asset to our users in trying to provide them with answers to their technical questions."
