Thomas & Betts, Memphis, Tenn., will present its 2001 Signature Awards in the categories of Electrician of the Year, Electrical Company of the Year, and Student/Apprentice of the Year at the 2002 National Association of Electrical Distributors annual meeting in Chicago. Editors from EC&M and CEE News, award co-sponsors, will act as judges. Winners will receive prizes valued at as much as $15,000. Applications for the awards, which can be found at www.TNB.com, are due by February 28, 2002.

Survey Reveals eBusiness Frustration

Most manufacturers are disappointed with online purchasing, according to a survey published by the National Association of Purchasing Managers (NAPM), Tempe, Ariz., and Forrester Research, Cambridge, Mass. In the survey, “Report on eBusiness,” 43.7% of the 407 respondents said their suppliers' online capabilities were “very bad” or “poor.” Only 7.6% said their level of satisfaction with their suppliers' online capabilities was “very good” or “excellent.”

Ballast Manufacturer Changes Name

MagneTek Lighting Products, Nashville, Tenn., has changed its name to Universal Lighting Technologies. The name change will not have an effect on the company's product line.
