Delivering reliable network performance is necessary for anyone maintaining a cabling system. An Independent Interoperability Lab recently monitored an extensive testing program, HarmonyPLUS, to determine network performance with live data packet transmission. This program is a family of Cats. 5e and 6 end-to-end structured cabling solutions, assuring reliability of components, total system performance, and networking support.

The channels tested were constructed with Helix/HiTemp SuperCAT360 UTP Cat. 5e cables, using varying channel lengths - up to 100 m and up to four connection points. The results of these cables and their specified connectivity partners support both 100-Base-TX and 1000Base-T network applications exceeding bit error rate standards.

The test results show significant margin in Power Sum Attenuation to Crosstalk (PSACR) at 100 MHz, and across the entire frequency range.

"There is significant headroom of PSACR, allowing a cleaner path for signals to pass through the cable plant," says William Reichert, Director of Business Development for Helix/HiTemp Cables, Inc. "This combined with the other three major transmission characteristics, PSNEXT, Return Loss, and Attenuation, provide assurance that cable plant performance will reduce the chance of retransmission errors or network data problems."
