If you missed actor John Ratzenberger (most known for his role as “Cliff Claven” in Cheers) on Dancing with the Stars last season, you can catch him narrating the latest multimedia CD-ROM from the Copper Development Association (CDA), New York. “Structured Wiring for Today's Homes — Homeowner Edition” is now available, free of charge, while supplies last.

To raise awareness of communications or structured wiring, the CDA invited Ratzenberger on a tour of four homes with four different digital lifestyles. In the CD, Ratzenberger introduces viewers to the four households: one with five teenagers, another with younger children, an empty nester, and the home of an electrical engineer with a passion for digital technology. In addition to the home tours, Ratzenberger provides an overview of the structured wiring concept, explaining the basic needs of homes today, pointing out the differences between wired and wireless solutions, and demonstrating why communciaitons wiring is important for entry-level homes as well as custom homes

“There are so many cool features available to a home wired with high-speed communications wiring,” says David Brender, national program manager for the CDA. “Structured wiring is what makes it possible, including home networking, Internet connections, whole-house audio, whole-house video, home theater, home automation, and home security. John does a fantastic job describing these conveniences in plain language.”

In the CD, Ratzengerger also introduces specialists who get into the nitty gritty of what structured wiring is, how it works, and why it's needed. To order your free CD, visit www.copper.org/swcd/.
