Toronto-based SkyPower Corp., and SunEdison, Mississauga, Ontario, recently broke ground on First Light, North America’s largest solar photovoltaic (PV) energy park, located on approximately 300 acres of land in Lennox &Addington County, Ontario. Construction of the 19MW solar park will occur in two phases, and it is expected to be completed by the end of 2009.

According to the government of Ontario and the Ontario Power Authority, First Light represents an important first step toward delivering secure, sustainable, and clean energy to Ontarians. The park is expected to power more than 2,000 homes annually. “We are happy that our community will be contributing to the generation of clean, green energy for Ontarians,” says Gord Schermerhorn, warden of Lennox & Addington. “This project is a welcome addition to our county’s industrial base and we look forward to welcoming similar-type projects in the future.”
