Truland Group Wins Safety Award, Welcomes New COO

Truland Group earns corporate safety award; appoints COO

The Truland Group, Reston, Va., recently received the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) 2011 Corporate Safety Award.

Applicants were judged on how their company promoted excellence in corporate safety, including safety record, safety program, and commitment to safety. In January 2011, Truland rolled out a new approach to safety aimed at promoting specific behaviors integral to reducing job-site injuries and incidents. Three actions are expected of all associates: working safely, speaking up when others work unsafely, and asking questions if directions are unclear. An additional three — providing resources to support zero injury culture, fostering safe work behaviors and safe job sites, and planning and sequencing tasks to minimize risks — are expected of company executives, foremen, and project managers.

The award was presented at a ceremony on Oct. 10, 2011, at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.

In other company news, Sean Gourlay was recently appointed to the position of chief operating officer (COO). A 30-yr veteran of the electrical construction industry, Gourlay has been employed by Truland Systems for two decades and has spent the last six years as senior vice president of field operations.

As COO, Gourlay is charged with oversight of all field operations within the nine business units comprising the Truland Group of companies. This role encompasses all aspects of service delivery, inclusive of project management, safety, quality control, manpower, and logistics.
