Rosendin Electric Receives National 2011 Transportation Design-Build Excellence Award

Rosendin Electric was recently recognized by the Design-Build Institute of America for its work as a specialty contractor in the Mineta San Jose International Airport renovation project.

San Jose, Calif.-headquartered Rosendin Electric recently received a 2011 National Design-Build Award in Transportation from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) in recognition for its work as a specialty contractor on the Mineta San Jose International Airport renovation project.

The company was responsible for installing new 12kV power systems for Terminal A, Terminal B, and the consolidated ConRAC rent-a-car facility; as well as new security, baggage handling, telecommunications, and security camera systems.

In addition, the electrical contractor installed all the emergency power systems, a campus-wide fire alarm system, energy-efficient LED lighting in the existing Terminal A garage, traffic controls systems for the airport roadway system, new passenger security check points, and new passenger boarding bridges. It also installed more than 40,000 LED luminaires that can be programmed to provide a variety of lighting themes in a new area in Terminal A where people can wait for arriving passengers.

The new Terminal B Concourse received LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for sustainability features such as occupancy lighting sensors, a programmable lighting control system, and smart heating and cooling systems.

The $1.3 billion airport project featured more than $100 million in electrical work, which included construction of the 1.8 million-sq-ft ConRAC facility and installation of the 1.12MW photovoltaic (PV) solar system on the parking garage roof. At various project milestones, Rosendin Electric had more than 120 union electricians employed.
