Griffin Electric Completes Two High-Profile Projects in Northern New England

Holliston, Mass.-based Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. (Griffin Electric) has recently completed the electrical installation work on two significant projects within the northern New England region.

One of the largest federal facilities in New Hampshire, the Federal Correction Institution, Berlin, N.H., will accommodate over 1,200 male inmates and employ approximately 300 individuals. In addition to six housing units, this new medium security prison facility, located on 770 acres, will house educational and vocational spaces, as well as, health care, food service, and administrative areas.

Working alongside design/build firm Bell/Heery; joint venture and electrical engineer, M/E Engineering, P.C.; both of Rochester, N.Y., in addition to architect Edward Rowse Architects, Providence, R.I., for the past three years. Griffin Electric was responsible for providing 35kV and 15kV site distribution and emergency generation, including two 2,000kW, 12,470V generators, for this high-profile project. Additionally, the firm installed interior distribution, power and lighting systems, paralleling switchgear and load bank, extensive lightning protection, and grounding systems, plus UPS systems and high-mast site lighting. Furthermore, all infrastructure work for the stringent security, fire alarm and communications systems required within the 572,000-sq-ft complex was completed by the Griffin team.

In Waterbury, Vt., a new forensics laboratory was added to the Vermont Department of Public Safety, which opened this fall. The only forensic laboratory in the state provides services to its entire criminal justice system, where evidence is brought forth by local and state police officers, game wardens, state attorneys' investigators, and public defenders, required for the administration of justice.

The Griffin team worked on providing temporary power and a 5kV site distribution for this 31,500-sq ft, three-story structure, in addition to power and lighting. Fire alarm and lightning protection systems were installed, as well as generator and UPS systems. Additionally, the team fitted up a critical equipment monitoring system, plus security/access control/communications raceway systems for this comprehensive project. General contractor Engelberth Construction, Inc., Colchester, Vt., with CUH2A, Inc., Lawrenceville, N.J .,as the architect and electrical engineer, led this project to its completion.

“Attention to detail is a trait we pride ourselves on at Griffin Electric,”, says Wayne J. Griffin, president. “With such high-profile, intricate projects, our responsibility was to ensure all installations were completed with the utmost consideration of time and effort.”
