The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), Washington, D.C., applauds the Construction Industry Ethics and Compliance Initiative (CIECI) and the 13 construction companies that recently came together to form this non-profit association with the intent of promoting ethical behavior and full compliance with the law. Formed April 25, 2008, the CIECI is not a lobbying organization. Instead, it will focus on construction companies' best practices for encouraging ethical behavior and ensuring full compliance.

“We are proud to report that all 13 of the CIECI's founding members are also AGC members,” says AGC's Chief Executive Officer Stephen E. Sandherr. “We encouraged them to take this step, and we will continue to support their effort to make a statement about the character and quality of the good people who work in the construction industry.”

While AGC has endorsed the CIECI and explained its goals and objectives to AGC members, the CIECI is independent of AGC or any other trade group, and will govern its own affairs. Its first chairman is William G. Dorey, president and CEO of Granite Construction, and its Interim Coordinator is Richard J. Bendar, a Washington lawyer well-known for his work for and on behalf of the Defense Industry Initiative.

The 13 founding members of the CIECI are:

  • Austin Industries, Inc., Dallas
  • Balfour Beatty, Atlanta and Dallas
  • Clark Construction Group LLC, Bethesda, Md.
  • Granite Construction, Inc., Watsonville, Calif.
  • Kenny Construction Co., Northbrook, Ill.
  • Kiewit Corp., Omaha, Neb.
  • The Lane Construction Corp., Cheshire, Conn.
  • Lusardi Construction Co., San Marcos, Calif.
  • Suffolk Construction Co., Inc., Boston
  • Sundt Construction, Inc., Tempe, Ariz.
  • Traylor Bros., Inc., Evansville, Ind.
  • The Walsh Group, Chicago
  • Zachry Construction Corp., San Antonio
