Permanent Audio System Installations

The Code requirements for permanent audio system installations are outlined in Part II of Art. 640 of the 2011 NEC.

Loudspeakers of permanent audio systems that are installed in fire resistance-rated partitions, walls, or ceilings shall be listed for the purpose or installed in an enclosure or recess that _____.

a) maintains the fire-resistance rating
b) is no more than 4 in. deep
c) is no more than 6 ft - 6 in. high
d) all of the above

The Code requirements for permanent audio system installations are outlined in Part II of Art. 640 of the 2011 NEC. As noted in 640.25, "Loudspeakers installed in a fire resistance-rated partition, wall, or ceiling shall be listed for that purpose or installed in an enclosure or recess that maintains the fire resistance rating."
