Snap switches shall be used as noted in Section 404.14(A) through (F) of the 2011 NEC. As noted in 404.14(B)(2), the use of general use snap switches suitable for use on AC or DC circuits for controlling inductive loads shall not exceed 50% of the ampere rating of the switch at the applied voltage. Switches rated in horsepower are suitable for controlling motor loads within their rating at the voltage applied.
