The new program will cover both technical and management aspects of electrical contracting and is designed for individuals already working within, or considering, the field. Offered evenings for the convenience of working students, the program requires 60 credit hours to complete. Students will be able to earn degrees in as few as two-and-a-half years, according to William White, chairman of the university’s Department of Engineering Technology.
“Lawrence Tech has a long tradition of serving the construction industry,” White said. “Many of the courses required for this degree are already offered here, and we were excited to work with NECA’s Southeastern Michigan Chapter to develop the additional courses needed. This degree is an important step in the electrical contracting industry’s quest for ever-increasing competence and professionalism, and we’re pleased that Lawrence Tech is playing a leading role.” Courses will cover management and business practices, safety equipment and tools, contracting skills, and electrical technology.
