MARCH: Hellerman Tyton's Cat. 6 Structured Cabling System

March 1, 2001
The HellermannTyton GigaBand system of structured cabling products is said to double the bandwidth of the proposed Cat. 6 standard (TIA/EIA-568B.2-1, draft 7). Tested to perform with positive Power Sum ACR up to 400 MHz, GigaBand offers unequalled Cat. 6 performance. The GigaBand system consists of jacks, patch panels and patch cords. When these products are used with approved horizontal cabling, up to 20 dB ACR optimum headroom is achieved through the entire four-connection channel. Also, GigaBand offers backward compatibility and can be used with Cat. 5 and Cat. 5e systems. In addition, the GigaBand system is interoperable by maintaining similar performance when tested with other leading manufacturers' products.

Part of GigaBand's advanced performance stems from its crosstalk cancellation technology. GigaBand modular jacks are designed with two additional contacts built into the jack to ensure superior functionality. The jacks also feature a unique design offering strain relief for the cable.

GigaSnap, the GigaBand patch panel, is fully modular and features individual PCB modules that can be replaced very easily. GigaSnap also comes with a patented slide label system, which offers a protected labeling area for smudge free identification of the ports. GigaSnap is supplied with rear cable managers, which provide cable strain relief.

The GigaBand patch cords' patented design features molded over plugs, which prevent the cable from being snagged when drawn through cable management bars or cable runs. These patch cords also feature a snap-on label clamp that enables individual patch cord labels to be used and protected. These labels can be easily inserted, removed and changed. HellermanTyton offers labels for this application. They can be printed using the company's TagPrint Pro labeling software and one of the thermal transfer printers for clear, crisp marking.

In addition to the GigaBand structured cabling system, HellermannTyton manufactures products for Cat. 5e and 3 systems. Other telecommunications products manufactured by HellermannTyton include InfoStream and TSR surface raceways; wire managers, racks and shelves; fiber protection and closure systems; hook and loop fasteners and cable ties in many styles, sizes and colors; and a wide variety of identification products which meet the ANSI/TIA/EIA-606-A proposed standard for labeling.
