Children of Guarantee Electrical Co. employees are sending the message, “Be Safe,” to their parents and to other subcontractors and general contractors across the metropolitan St. Louis region. Their message will be the focus of a new safety campaign, launched to celebrate Guarantee's 100th anniversary in 2002. Copies of the children's posters will be displayed at area job sites and at Guarantee's corporate headquarters.

“Our wired for safety program is a major area of focus for every one of us here at Guarantee, and we wanted to innovate by getting our families into the act, too,” said Roger Oertli, chief operating officer. We believe there is a heightened impact when our people see posters from children asking them to come home safely.”

Rick Oertli, chief executive officer, said the event was the first of 12 monthly events scheduled to coincide with the company's 100th anniversary, including a safety awards program, foreman's appreciation night and a presentation on the 1904 World's Fair.

Founded in 1902 by seven men for the purpose of powering the 1904 World's Fair, St. Louis-based Guarantee Electrical now employs more than 600 engineers, electricians and staff. According to a company legend, the company received its name from the founders' “guarantee” that their installation would be complete on time and last through the seven-month World's Fair.
