CEE News posted the question, “How do you think the World Trade Center should be rebuilt and why?” on its Web site and the Electrical Contractor Network discussion board. Here are some electrical professionals' views on the rebuilding of the WTC.
“I think the World Trade Center should be red, white and blue. They would have to do it in subtle tones to make it pleasing, but what better tribute than the American colors? How many buildings have a color like that — 10 to 15 worldwide? I feel that whatever we do, it should be with the American spirit. Americans put blood, sweat and tears into the construction. I can't wait to see what it will become…
“Exactly as it was before so we don't forget what happened. Only this time arrange the towers to point toward the east. Realistically though, it would be difficult to get tenants in another high-rise. To leave nothing but a memorial on the site would only show Al Qaeda how successful they were. Something should be built that will be the next financial center of the world.”
“The site should be preserved or rebuilt in accordance with the wishes of the citizens of New York City. They are the ones who suffered the greatest loss and they are the only ones who have a say in the matter.”
“I think it should be rebuilt exactly the same or larger. I don't think you'll have any problem getting people back in. Sure you'll have a few individuals getting hysterical about it, but most will see it as sign of American strength.”
