LED Lighting to Save Dallas County Schools Big Bucks
Dallas County Schools (DCS) is one of the largest pupil transportation operators in the United States, maintaining 10 service centers that house its 1,700 bus pupil transportation fleet. So when it came time to upgrade the DCS parking lot lighting systems, energy efficiency was a must. The school district turned to Lumetech Group for upgrade options, resulting in the successful installation of an energy-efficient LED lighting solution in all of the DCS parking lots.
This retrofit was funded in part by incentives provided by the Oncor LED Lighting Program as part of its commitment to reduce energy consumption and demand. Oncor operates the largest distribution and transmission system in Texas, delivering power to approximately 3 million homes and businesses and operating approximately 117,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines. Through this program, the electric utility offers significant incentives for business, government, and nonprofit customers to upgrade parking lots, garages, and other facilities with energy-efficient LED lighting and controls.
It is estimated that the annual energy savings to DCS will be in excess of 505,000 kWh per year. In addition, as a result of the enhanced performance and reliability of the new lighting system, DCS expects to save approximately $363,600 in electricity and maintenance costs over the life of the new system.
“As an integral member of the Dallas business community, DCS recognizes the need to operate in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible," says Dallas County Superintendent Rick Sorrells.
